Em Dezembro de 2011 foi formalmente constituida a Associação Portuguesa de Biologia Evolutiva. A nova associação foi apresentada no decorrer do VII Encontro Nacional de Biologia Evolutiva, a 21 de Dezembro, em Coimbra, tendo desde logo integrado vários sócios. O próximo Encontro Nacional, em 2012, será no IGC (Oeiras). Até lá decorrerão eleições para os órgãos da APBE. Sobre a APBE, vejam a carta fundadora e os Estatutos. A Associação tem como fim: a) promover o conhecimento e divulgação de conhecimentos na área da Biologia Evolutiva; b) fomentar o intercâmbio nacional e internacional no domínio da investigação e ensino na Biologia Evolutiva; c) colaborar com quaisquer entidades, oficiais ou privadas, nacionais, estrangeiras ou internacionais, no campo das suas competências técnicas e científicas. First Joint Congress on Evolutionary Biology The Ottawa Convention Centre Ottawa, Ontario, Canada July 6-10, 2012 Welcome to the site of the First Joint Congress on Evolutionary Biology (aka ‘Evolution 2012’), to be held in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. This landmark event will bring together five of the world’s largest academic societies devoted to the study of ecology and evolutionary biology: the American Society of Naturalists (ASN), the Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution (CSEE) the European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB), the Society for the Study of Evolution (SSE), and the Society of Systematic Biologists (SSB). This event merges the traditional ‘Evolution’ meeting, the joint annual meeting of the ASN, SSE and SSB, with both its European and Canadian counterparts (the biennial ESEB congress and annual CSEE meeting). This will be the first time that these five societies have met together, creating a truly international event that spans the fields of ecology and evolution. The meeting will be the premier showcase in 2012 for the presentation and discussion among peers of the latest, leading-edge research in ecology and evolution, and will also be an important forum for outreach and education. The congress will follow the traditional format of an Evolution meeting, meaning that all attendees will have an opportunity to present their research as a talk or a poster. This format is somewhat different from the ESEB tradition and if you’re not familiar with it, please consult the ‘Poster/Talk Submission’ tab for more information (coming soon).
